Custom Hearing aids Troubleshooting

For custom hearing aids that are shaped to fit inside of your ears, start off by checking if they are turned on.

  • If it is rechargeable, place the hearing aid in the charger with the battery contacts facing downwards so that it aligns with the charging ports. When putting them to charge, make sure that the LED light are glowing green on the charging case as well.
  • If the hearing aids are battery operated, ensure that the battery door is properly closed. To see whether it is time to replace the battery, check the voltage using a battery tester if you have one. If you do not have a battery tester on hand, a good trick is to drop the battery on a hard surface like a counter or table and see if it bounces. If it hardly bounces at all, there is still battery life left. If it bounces quite a lot, the battery is nearly empty, and it is time to change it. When changing the battery, make sure to wait around 2 minutes after taking off the sticker to let the air activate it before placing it in the battery compartment.

  • Built up earwax in the wax guard is another main reason why the hearing aids can sound dull and why you may experience decrease in hearing when wearing them. Changing your wax guards around once a month is an important step to troubleshooting.
  • Also make sure that you are inserting the hearing aids properly for a snug fit in your ears. Try turning the volume up on the app or using the manual rotation wheel if you have one on the hearing aid to see if that makes a difference. If you have a program button on the hearing aid, try to press and switch between programs to see if you hear any sound.
  • Another step to troubleshooting is brushing the microphone ports and vents of any dust or debris using the cleaning tools provided. If you work in environments where the hearing aids are prone to getting dusty, make sure you are cleaning them more regularly.
